The Town of Wethersfield is implementing a new residential automated curbside single stream recycling collection system. This program will help control costs and increase recycling participation by making it easier and more convenient for residents. In an effort to make this a smooth transition, we have listed pertinent information below on how the new system will operate:
As of July 5, 2010, recyclable collection will be done every two weeks on the same day as your trash collection. Recyclable collection will be done utilizing an "A" and "B" week schedule. Trash collection will continue to be done weekly. The week of July 5 will be the "B" collection schedule. There will NOT be a delay in connection with Independence Day.
Trash and recyclable routes begin at 7 a.m. so please have your barrels out early. We recommend putting them out the night before. Place the barrels within two feet of the curb with the arrows on the lid facing the street. The handle used to maneuver the barrel should be facing your home. Please place the barrels at least two feet apart and away from any obstacles like mailboxes and landscape structures.
You may keep your existing recycling bin to use inside your home for your recyclables. If you do not wish to keep your bin, you may drop it off at the Wethersfield Transfer Station, 100 Marsh Street. Do not dispose of unwanted bins in your blue recycling barrel or your trash barrel. Keep in mind, once automated single stream recycle service starts, you will not be able to place this recycling bin by the curb for pick-up. All recyclables must be placed in your 95 gallon blue barrel for automated curbside collection.
Remember, the new service does not begin until July 5, 2010, so please continue to use your current recycle containers until that time.
