Wethersfield residents using the Transfer Station require a permit, except to drop off recycling material, leaves, or to pick up mulch.
Waste generated from properties located outside of Wethersfield is not permitted at the Transfer Station.
No mechanical dumping vehicles are permitted.
The Town reserves the right to refuse loads which are not suited for disposal in the Transfer Station. Examples of refused loads include: Large tree stumps, large quantities of fill, stones and cement. The Transfer Station does not accept any hazardous material.
Permits and coupons may be purchased at the Transfer Station at 100 Marsh St.
Permit decals must be affixed to the lower left (driver's side) of the front windshield. Permit decals are valid only for the vehicle they were issued for and are not transferable.
In general, the Transfer Station is in operation to serve as a convenience to the residents of Wethersfield. It is not intended to be a landfill nor is it intended to provide an alternate dumping site for large commercial users.

Recyclable Items Accepted
- Motor Oil & Antifreeze - New and used motor oil, antifreeze, diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid and kerosene only. [No gasoline, paint thinner, break fluid, cleaning fluids, etc.]
- Lead Acid & Ni-Cad Batteries - Automotive and marine type lead acid storage batteries may be delivered to the Transfer Station or any retailer of such batteries. Call 1-800-8-BATTERY for nickel cadmium battery disposal. [No alkaline type batteries]
- Scrap Metal - "White goods" such as major appliances, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and hot water heaters are collected curbside, on Mondays, by the Town for a fee. They can also be brought to the Transfer Station for free (with the exception of appliances containing freon for which there will be a $10.00 fee to pay for the removal of the hazardous material freon. A Disposal sticker must be purchased at the Transfer Station for appliances to be picked up at curbside or freon appliances to be brought to the Transfer Station. Small metal items including shelves, tables, chairs, pipes, bicycles, lawnmowers, sinks etc. should be delivered to the Transfer Station, there is no fee. [Empty water-based paint cans may be placed in the trash provided the lid is removed and the paint has dried completely.
Leaves, Brush and Grass
- Leaves - Residents are encouraged to compost leaves, grass clippings and other vegetative waste on their own property when possible. In the fall, leaves may be placed curbside for vacuum collection or placed in garbage bags for curbside pick-up during the Town's scheduled leaf collection program. Residents also have the option of bringing down their leaves to the Transfer Station at no charge.
- Brush - Brush may be delivered to the Transfer Station (Fee charged & Permit required).
- Grass - Grass clippings will not be picked up at curbside for disposal. Residents can dispose of grass clippings during regular hours of the Physical Services refuse site located on Marsh Street. There is a charge of $3.00 per 32 gallon barrel. Residents are reminded that they should bring the grass clippings in 32-gallon containers. Residents are encouraged to compost on their own property, or leave the clippings on the lawn. Composting information can be obtained at the Health Department at Town Hall on the Silas Deane Highway.
